Citing a notarized Maltese property document, the report states that his birth name is Sergio Gorokhovsky.
Gor’s attorney, Robert Garson, confirmed by email that his client was born in Tashkent.
Gor had previously declined to reveal his birthplace. A December 2024 article in The Washington Post about Gor made no mention of where he was born but described him as an immigrant from Malta. In a comment to the New York Post, Gor refused to name his country of birth, saying only that it isn’t Russia.
Documents show Gor spent at least five years of his childhood in Malta. His mother established a Maltese company in 1994 and listed herself as an Israeli citizen in its documents. She owned a home in the town of Cospicua. According to the OCCRP, Gor purchased the house from his mother’s company in 2021 for EUR255,000 ($299,000). The notarized property record also lists his place of birth in Tashkent.
Journalists report that Gor visited Moscow twice—in 2017 and 2018, during Donald Trump's first presidential term.
The New York Post had previously reported that Gor, who oversees vetting thousands of Trump administration employees, is suspected of concealing his Russian origins. The paper noted that the 38-year-old vets about 4,000 executive branch employees for Trump’s program, scrutinizing old social media posts, political donations, and statements to ensure personal loyalty to the U.S. president.
Sources said Gor still has not submitted the standard SF‑86 form—a lengthy questionnaire required for employees who need access to classified information.
