An intoxicated man opened fire on a street in Bucha and was detained, Kyiv regional police reported on April 25.

According to law enforcement, witnesses reported the gunfire, after which police security units, a patrol response group, and an investigative team were immediately dispatched.

Security Police officers were first on scene and promptly detained the offender.

Police determined that a 42-year-old man, intoxicated, exited a taxi and began firing randomly on the street. No one was injured.

Law enforcement continues to work at the scene to establish all the circumstances of the shooting. Investigators opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

On April 18 in Kyiv’s Holosiyivskyi district, a 58-year-old man — later found to be a Russian-born citizen — set fire to his own apartment, went outside and began shooting at passersby. He stormed a supermarket and took hostages, killing one of them.

KORD special forces later killed the man during an assault. Seven people were killed in the terrorist attack.

National Police chief Ivan Vyhivskyi said a domestic dispute may have been the cause. In such cases, a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric examination is usually ordered and can be conducted posthumously.
