Space body flies over Ukraine: social media users discuss nature of phenomenon

A space object was seen falling in several regions of Ukraine overnight on Aug. 16. In particular, the phenomenon was seen in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Sumy oblasts, according to posts in various regional social media groups.
"A meteor flew over Kyiv Oblast," the Real Kyiv|Ukraine Telegram channel claimed.
Netizens expressed different versions of the nature of the phenomenon.
Some speculated that it could have been a satellite that had fallen out of orbit, or even a comet. However, most were inclined to believe that it was a meteorite. One of the videos shows the space body flying apart.
In the night leading up to Aug. 11, Earth was hit by a powerful geomagnetic storm that caused the Northern Lights to be visible in many countries. Although this optical phenomenon is not typical for Ukraine, residents of several regions were able to witness it.
