VNIIR-Progress defense plant in Cheboksary sustains heavy damage in repeat attack - video

Preliminary data indicated the strike hit a factory that produces navigation equipment, GNSS receivers, and Kometa-type antennas. These components are used in Russian drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles.

Footage showing the aftermath of the attack on the enterprise's grounds has been published online. The full scale of the damage is being clarified.

Attacks on Cheboksary

Overnight on June 10, VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary, which manufactures components for Russian missiles and drones, was struck, triggering a fire and causing significant destruction. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the strike on the facility was carried out by Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo missiles.

Overnight on May 5, a hit was also recorded at the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary, the capital of Russia's Chuvash Republic. Exilenova+ Telegram channel suggested that the strike was carried out by Flamingo missiles, which President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later confirmed.

On Feb. 18, a series of explosions rocked Cheboksary in a drone attack, with the VNIIR-Progress plant, manufacturing equipment for the Russian defense industry, identified as a likely target. According to local residents and Russian Telegram channels, one of the drones crashed near the facility, after which smoke was visible in the area.

On June 9, 2025, AFU General Staff confirmed a strike on the VNIIR-Progress enterprise in Cheboksary. According to the military, the plant was hit by at least two drones, sparking a massive fire.
