Ukrainian teens and hiker saved from deadly Carpathian storm

The rescuers shared photos of the operation on Telegram.

According to the SES, two 17-year-old boys were attempting to hike along a spring route but were caught in harsh winter conditions.

“Thanks to the signal from RA-037 point and rapid coordination between rescuers in Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattya oblasts, they were guided to safety," the SES said.

"No injuries were reported.”

Another tourist, a 38-year-old man, had set out from Vorokhta toward Pip Ivan Chornohirskyi Mount three days earlier. He lost his bearings in deep snow and thick fog near a mountain saddle.

Rescuers found him suffering from hypothermia and frostbite on his hands. After administering first aid, they handed him over to medics.

The SES warned that difficult weather conditions persist in the mountains and urges hikers to stay home, check forecasts, and not underestimate the power of nature.

On April 6, approximately 30 cm of snow fell on the Mount Pip Ivan, the SES said. Frosts down to -5°C in the air and -3°C on the ground were forecast for much of Ukraine, along with icy road conditions.

Due to the sharp drop in temperatures, Ukraine declared an orange-level (middle level) weather warning from April 8 to 11.
