Russian saboteurs targeting two Sumy Oblast districts, Ukraine's border agency says

“The length of the border with Russia within Sumy Oblast is about 550 km, and only in such a small area the enemy continues to use its tactics of attempts to penetrate with small assault groups - within the Khotin and Yunakivka municipalities,” he said.

“However, the enemy's activity has recently decreased, and this is the result of the daily hard work and courage of Ukrainian defenders who destroy dozens of enemies, both killed and wounded.”

Russian forces are using fewer quad bikes and motorcycles and no armored vehicles along the border. 

Beyond these sabotage efforts, Russian troops continue assault operations in Sumy Oblast, Demchenko added.

"We shouldn't forget Kharkiv Oblast, the direction of Lyptsi and Vovchansk, where the enemy also continues its assault operations, trying to advance deeper into the territory of Ukraine," said the spokesman.

“However, the enemy is unable to achieve the desired. There is also the Stroyivka direction.”

The enemy is not able to achieve its goals thanks to the work of the Defense Forces.

The situation in Sumy Oblast

On June 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to capture the city of Sumy but said “he had not yet set such a goal.” 

On June 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the Sumy sector as one of the hottest on the front, accounting for 23% of Russian strikes, including those with North Korean missiles. 

On June 22, the DeepState monitoring group reported that Ukrainian forces retook Andriyivka in Sumy Oblast for the second time, and border guards noted reduced Russian pressure in the region. 

The National Security and Defense Council’s Center for Countering Disinformation reported that Russian troops in Sumy Oblast are abandoning positions due to heavy losses.
