"The invaders continue to operate in certain areas, particularly within the Yunakivka and Khotin municipalities," he said.
"The Russians are still attempting to infiltrate with small assault groups, but the overall intensity of attacks has noticeably declined."
Demchenko explained that this is the result of the effective actions of Ukrainian units:
“This is the result, of course, of the Ukrainian defenders from all branches of the Defense Forces, including the Armed Forces and the State Border Guard Service, because just along our defense lines in this zone, dozens of enemy soldiers have been killed or wounded,” he said.
Recently, dozens of Russian troops have been killed or wounded along border defense lines in this area.
In addition, the enemy has reduced its use of motor vehicles and ATVs, which had previously been used for rapid breakthroughs into Ukrainian territory.
In this area, Russian forces are not using armored vehicles — likely due to shortages or an effort to conserve resources for future operations.
Situation in Sumy Oblast
On May 28, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia had amassed over 50,000 troops along the Sumy axis.
Military expert Ivan Stupak reported that Russian forces were occupying around 100 square kilometers of territory in Sumy Oblast and continued expanding their control.
On May 31, Sumy Oblast Governor Oleh Hryhorov announced a mandatory evacuation for 11 more settlements in Oblast.
DeepState analysts noted that Russian troops crossed the border in another area of Sumy Oblast and advanced near the village of Oleksandriya. They later reported that the village of Volodymyrivka had fallen under Russian occupation.
On June 2, Ukraine’s Border Guard Service said that Russian forces were widening the corridor for their infantry to operate inside Sumy Oblast.
