“The Ukrainian Defense Forces are conducting a defensive operation in the Pivnichnoslobozhanskyi sector, effectively eliminating the enemy, which persists in attempting assaults in Sumy Oblast’s border areas,” the statement said.
The General Staff noted that in this sector, as well as in the Kursk sector, Ukrainian forces have pinned down a Russian grouping of approximately 50,000 troops, preventing their redeployment to the Pokrovsk and Novopavlivka sectors.
The situation is currently stabilized, with Ukrainian forces halting Russian advances along the line of Yunakivka, Yablunivka, Novomykolaivka, Oleksiyivka, Kindrativka, the Russia border, and a Russian bridgehead in the Glushkovo district of Kursk Oblast.
“Our troops are holding defenses along the designated line, preparing and conducting counteroffensive actions to push back the enemy,” the General Staff reported.
“As a result of successful operations, Ukrainian forces liberated the village of Andriyivka. Additionally, our units advanced near Oleksiyivka, pushing the enemy further from Sumy.”
Russian forces continue attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from Kursk and Belgorod oblasts, employing their most combat-capable motorized rifle units, marines, and air assault troops, alongside long-range artillery, aviation, and attack drones.
Ukrainian forces, however, are effectively neutralizing enemy personnel, military equipment, and weapons.
In June, Russian losses in the Pivnichnoslobozhanskyi and Kursk sectors totaled approximately 9,310 soldiers, including 4,470 killed, 4,800 wounded, and 42 captured.
Ukrainian forces also struck:
- 16 enemy command posts,
- eight observation posts,
- six manpower clusters,
- one weapons and equipment concentration area,
- three ammunition depots,
- three logistics depots,
- three drone storage sites,
- two drone control points,
- two repair bases,
- one logistics base and one oil depot.
Since the start of the Kursk operation, Russian losses in these directions exceed 75,860 troops, including 1,037 captured, and 2,848 units of military equipment, including 99 tanks, 709 armored combat vehicles, and 322 artillery systems and multiple-launch rocket systems.
On June 21, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Sumy sector remains one of the hottest fronts, accounting for 23% of all Russian strikes, including those using North Korean missiles.
On June 22, the DeepState monitoring project reported that Ukrainian forces had liberated Andriyivka in Sumy Oblast for the second time, with border guards noting reduced Russian pressure in the region.
On June 26, the Siversk Operational-Tactical Group reported that Russian forces are most active in the Pivnichnoslobozhanskyi sector toward Sumy, while Ukrainian forces conduct counteroffensive actions.
