Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina exited the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal after a quarterfinal defeat to Naomi Osaka.
Following the match, Ukraine’s No. 1 player revealed that she received a flood of angry and threatening messages from online sports bettors.
Svitolina addressed the haters directly on social media:
“To all the bettors: I am a mother first, and only then an athlete. The way you speak to women, to mothers — it’s a disgrace," she wrote.
"If your moms saw the messages you send, they’d be ashamed of you.”
