“Today’s actions are not just words of support but concrete commitments,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said in an interview with TVN24.
“I have just been informed by the Swedish defense minister of the urgent dispatch of further support to Poland — including air-defense systems and aircraft. We are in constant contact with our allies.”
The minister added that the day when Russian drones violated Polish airspace brought forth “concrete statements” of support from Poland’s NATO allies.
He cited Turkey in 2003, when NATO launched a security-reinforcement operation near its border during the second war in Iraq.
“We want to do the same for Poland, and that is already underway,” the minister said.
“Bilateral consultations have begun. There are pledges of reinforcements within hours, including specific equipment, skills and capabilities.”
Polish PM Donald Tusk had earlier reported that 19 Russian drones were detected in the country’s airspace overnight, with some entering from Belarus. Preliminary reports indicated that four were shot down. Poland’s Interior Ministry also confirmed the discovery of debris from an unidentified missile.
One drone struck a residential building in the village of Wyrki-Wola in Lublin Voivodeship. The building was damaged, but no one was injured.
Tusk has asked NATO to invoke Article 4 of the Alliance treaty, which provides for consultations in case of a threat to a member state.
