Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said Russian drones in Poland show that dictator Vladimir Putin’s sense of impunity is growing.
“Putin continues to escalate, expand the war and test the West’s strength. The longer he does not face power in response, the more aggressive he becomes,” the minister wrote.
He said it is now necessary to decide on involving the air defense capabilities of neighboring countries to repel Russian missiles and drones in Ukrainian airspace so they do not approach NATO borders. This, he stressed, is needed for collective security.
Sybiha also urged partners to urgently strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses and impose additional sanctions against Russia without delay. He said Putin will begin peace negotiations only under serious transatlantic pressure.
On the night of Sept. 10, during a massive strike on Ukraine, Russian drones unprecedentedly violated Polish airspace, forcing the closure of airports in Warsaw, Rzeszów and Lublin. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the military shot down some of the UAVs.
Warsaw informed NATO and convened an emergency government meeting. The country also tightened security measures, and the Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) introduced reduced reporting times for servicemen in several regions.
