Talks on an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia announced by U.S. President Donald Trump are ongoing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, according to Russian state media on Oct. 12.

He declined to provide further details, saying the Kremlin had “nothing to say” for now.

“As soon as we have information on this matter, we will certainly inform you,” Peskov said.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, commenting on the so-called energy ceasefire, said Moscow would not give Kyiv a “breather” on the battlefield, according to Russian state-aligned media.

Earlier, Peskov also rejected a proposal for a 60-day ceasefire to hold elections in Ukraine, saying Putin was prepared to order a halt to strikes on Ukraine only on election day.

On Oct. 11, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia would begin “from this moment,” saying both sides had agreed to it.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later called the announcement “good news” and said it was important for the agreement to “become a reality.” He added that Ukraine supports all formats aimed at achieving a ceasefire and ending the war.

According to Axios, the ceasefire applies only to strikes on oil refineries.

Shortly after Trump's announcement, Russian forces struck a thermal power plant in Kharkiv, Zelenskyy said.
