Fedorenko reported ongoing battles, noting significant strides by the Armed Forces in diminishing the enemy's shock assault capabilities by targeting their light armored vehicles, artillery, and assault groups.
He elaborated on the situation near Vovchansk, emphasizing its strategic importance for enemy forces who prefer urban warfare due to easier combat operations in residential settings. However, Ukrainian forces are effectively striking the enemy at the approaches to the city.
"The Russians have failed to achieve their tactical goals," Fedorenko said. He highlighted that Ukrainian soldiers are not only defending successfully but also taking proactive measures to improve their tactical position.
"As a result of these operations, we have not only regained positions but also captured an enemy. The enemy must now replenish losses, which involves regrouping and drawing additional reserves. Every enemy soldier defeated on our soil diminishes their shock assault capabilities," Fedorenko explained.
He concluded by asserting that the situation has almost been completely resolved.
Russian offensive in Kharkiv Oblast
On May 10, Russian forces attempted to breach Ukraine's defenses near Vovchansk in Kharkiv Oblast, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense. Ukrainian forces successfully repelled the attacks.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian troops had launched a new counteroffensive in the area.
Monitoring groups noted that several villages in northern Kharkiv had been occupied.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, described the situation in Kharkiv Oblast as "escalating". He stated that Russian troops had extended the active combat zone by 70 km.
