Parliament passes bill boosting military rights: 12-month treatment, $385K compensation for death

MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced on Telegram on March 21 the removal of a provision restricting media information dissemination.

The bill garnered approval from 296 deputies.

The document establishes a monetary compensation of UAH 15 million ($385,000) to the family of a deceased serviceman.

Before the second reading, a provision was added allowing servicemen to undergo continuous treatment for up to 12 months without needing a military medical examination every four months.

The bill allows servicemen to take one-time leave upon the birth of a child while retaining full financial support.

Ukrainian government registered a new conscription bill version (No. 10449) in the parliament on Jan. 30. It proposes, among other things, to introduce draft summonses through the conscript's electronic office. Other innovations include lowering the conscription age to 25, setting the demobilization period at 36 months, introducing voluntary mobilization for convicts, restrictions on draft dodgers, banning civil service without military training, and more.

The bill was passed in the first reading on Feb. 7.

Parliamentary National Security Committee began considering the conscription bill for the second reading on Feb. 27.

The second reading of the bill, inclusive of the amendments, could occur by the end of March, said the Defense Committee MP Fedir Venislavskyi.
