The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) arrested a well-known lawyer from Dnipro, providing coordinates for Russian missile strikes on the city and attempted to flee the country after that, SBU’s press service reported on Jan. 22.

The man was detained at the border crossing with Poland - and is described as “one of the most deeply embedded FSB agents” in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

Investigators established that the lawyer had directed a Russian missile attack on a local company involved in the modernization and repair of strike and reconnaissance drones. The agent reportedly supplied not just general coordinates but precise locations of key production workshops and storage facilities.

The SBU reported that the strike he facilitated resulted in six deaths and left 30 others seriously injured, also damaging civilian infrastructure. Later, he allegedly sent the Russians the coordinates of another strategic target in Dnipro.

The suspect communicated with his Russian handler through an intermediary — an old acquaintance who holds the position of "First Deputy Head of the Krasnohvardiyskyi District Administration in Crimea" and is working for the FSB.

During searches of the suspect’s home and office, investigators found mobile phones and SIM cards containing evidence of his espionage activities.

The lawyer has been charged under two articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code:

  • Part 2, Article 111 – High treason committed under martial law
  • Part 2, Article 436-2 – Justification, recognition as lawful, or denial of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants.

A court has ordered him to be held in custody. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.
