“He was hit very hard, just like I said he would be; he took a strong blow,” Trump said, apparently referring to the intensified Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Commenting on his recent phone call with Zelenskyy, Trump described it as a “good conversation” and reiterated his disappointment with the call he had with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
He also claimed that he is “helping a lot” with Ukraine, and repeated his assertion that the war could have been avoided if he had been president in 2022.
On July 3, Trump spoke by phone with Putin. He later told the press that he had made “no progress” toward achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine and expressed disappointment with the conversation.
During the night of July 4, Russia launched the most massive aerial attack of the war so far, using 550 aerial targets. The main target was Kyiv, where 26 people were injured and one person was killed.
On July 4, Zelenskyy held a separate phone call with Trump.
The Ukrainian president said it was “the best conversation we’ve had.”
The leaders discussed air defense capabilities, and agreed that their teams would work together to strengthen Ukraine’s air shield.
