He made this statement when expressing his view on “a few unresolved points” remaining in the negotiations over Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“If you look at it, you’ll see everything is moving in one direction," he alleged.
"So ultimately, this is land that over the next few months Russia may end up getting anyway. So do you want to keep fighting and lose another 50–60 thousand people, or do you want to do something now?”
He stressed that "the parties are starting to understand that this is a good deal for everyone.”
The U.S. president said the original 28-point peace plan was only a “concept.” He claimed that the plan has now been reduced to 22 points, “most of which are already agreed.”
On the territorial issue, Trump said the sides are trying to “tidy up the border.”
“They’re talking about exchanges of territory in both directions and trying to sort out the border," the White House leader explained.
"You know, you don’t draw a border through somebody’s house. You can’t put a border down the middle of a highway. So they’re trying to figure something out. It’s a complicated process and it’s not that quick.”
When asked about security guarantees for Ukraine, Trump said the United States is working together with Europe.
Trump added that Europe will be “heavily involved in this,” because it “really wants this to end.”
On Nov. 23, U.S. and Ukrainian delegations held talks in Geneva (Switzerland) on a peace plan to end the war. In a joint statement, the two countries said their delegations had prepared an updated framework document for a peace settlement.
That same day, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Secretary Rustem Umerov said the U.S. and Ukrainian delegations had “reached a common understanding of the key terms of the agreement discussed in Geneva.”
According to him, Kyiv is now waiting for Europe’s backing and preparing for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the United States later this week to finalize details with President Trump.
Zelenskyy, for his part, said the Ukrainian team that returned from Geneva had “provided a full report and an updated framework document.”
On Nov. 25, CBS News, citing a U.S. official, claimed that Ukraine had agreed to the U.S. peace proposal and that only “minor details” remained to be settled.
Politico, citing a senior U.S. official, wrote that U.S. Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll, who is now in Abu Dhabi, will present to the Russian delegation a peace framework agreed on Nov. 23 by the United States and Ukraine.
