Rome is one of the venues under discussion for the summit, according to the report.
Other potential locations in Europe and beyond have also been floated for the talks, the sources said. While the meeting may not happen precisely on Monday, they suggested it is expected sometime next week.
Earlier reports on Aug. 8 indicated that Trump and Putin might meet in one of the Arab countries.
On Aug. 6, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with Putin in Moscow. Following the meeting, Trump said Witkoff had made “significant progress” during discussions with the Russian leader.
Trump later said there was a strong chance he would meet Putin “very soon” and voiced hope that trilateral talks involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy might also take place in the near future.
On Aug. 7, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin, claimed that a location for the summit had already been agreed upon and that the meeting would take place “in the coming days.”
Putin himself named the United Arab Emirates as a possible venue and said he was open to meeting Zelenskyy — but only “under certain conditions.”
