Trump threatens to obliterate Iranian gas field if Tehran attacks Qatar again

"Israel struck Iran's South Pars gas field 'out of anger over what is happening in the Middle East,' hitting only a small part of it," Trump claimed.

"The U.S. was not informed about this attack, and Qatar had nothing to do with it and was unaware of its preparation."

Lacking full information about the circumstances of the strike on the field, Iran baselessly attacked part of Qatar's gas infrastructure, he added. Israel will no longer attack this facility unless Iran decides to strike Qatar again, Trump emphasized.

"In that case, the U.S. — with or without help and regardless of Israel's consent — will massively blow up the entire South Pars gas field with such force and power that Iran has never seen before." 

At the same time, he stressed that he will not want to make this decision due to the possible long-term consequences for Iran, but assured that "if the LNG production facilities in Qatar are attacked again, I will not hesitate."

Oil and European natural gas prices rose sharply after Trump's threats, with Brent crude rising 3.9% to $111.51 per barrel, The Guardian noted. Pressure also intensified on Asian stock markets, with the Nikkei 225 falling by 2.5%.

Iran attacked Qatar's Ras Laffan industrial zone — one of the world's largest liquefied natural gas centers — with missiles twice in less than 12 hours on March 19, causing massive damage and fires at the facility.

Qatar declared the military and security attachés of the Iranian embassy, as well as their staff, personae non gratae following the strike on the industrial city of Ras Laffan.

Europe received 7% of all its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from Qatar in 2025, according to the Kpler analytical platform.

QatarEnergy officially confirmed the suspension of LNG and related product production at its complexes in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed on March 2.

QatarEnergy reportedly shipped 80.97 million tons of LNG in 2025, with a production capacity of up to 142 million tons per year. Traders' estimates indicated that the company supplies 90-95% of its gas under long-term contracts and 5-10% on the spot market. Global energy giants ExxonMobil, Shell, TotalEnergies, Eni, and Conoco are the largest investors in QatarEnergy.

Israel and the U.S. earlier announced attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, in operations dubbed Lion's Roar (Israel) and Epic Fury (U.S.). In response to the attack, Iran launched ballistic missiles at Israel. Iranian missiles and drones also attacked U.S. military bases in Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
