Essential facilities in the two regions are operating on backup power, according to the statement posted on Telegram at 11:22 p.m. Kyiv time.
“The Russian military carried out another attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure tonight,” the ministry said.
“Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya oblasts are nearly completely without power supply as a result. Damage assessment and repairs will begin as soon as the security situation permits.”
Power grid operator Ukrenergo urged residents of both regions to conserve electricity wherever possible. Private utility company DTEK announced emergency blackouts in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and would begin restoration efforts immediately after air-raid alerts end.
Power outages also hit the cities of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhya, and some districts reported disruptions to their water supply. Mykola Lukashuk, chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council, warned that there was no clear timeline for restoring power and advised residents to stock up on drinking water. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of Kryvyi Rih city defense council (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast), warned about likely further emergency blackouts.
