Over $1.6 billion for the Ukrainian defense industry and $1.23 billion in direct budget support, as well as money for humanitarian and energy projects, is currently earmarked for Ukraine, Nikelenko said. He warned that should a shutdown take place, this support could be jeopardized.

“The Ukrainian government is actively working with its American partners so that the new U.S. budget decision, which will be worked out within the next 45 days, includes funds for assistance to Ukraine,” Nikolenko said.

“Support for Ukraine remains unwavering both in the administration of the U.S. president and in both parties and chambers of the U.S. Congress, and most importantly, among the American people.”

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill on Sept. 30 for the temporary financing of the government. As part of the bill, $6 billion was earmarked for aid to Ukraine.

A government shutdown happens when Congress doesn't approve funding for the federal government by the time the new fiscal year starts on Oct. 1.

To prevent this from happening, Congress passed a resolution for a temporary, 45-day extension of funding.

U.S. President Joe Biden reacted to the bill approved by Congress, saying that the U.S. cannot, under any circumstances, allow American support for Ukraine to be interrupted.

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Sept. 25 that the situation could affect the provision of military aid to Ukraine.

The Pentagon announced on Sept. 25 that the shutdown could affect the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
