The U.S. military lost two more MQ-9 Reaper drones near
Isfahan in central Iran,
bringing the total number of Reapers lost during the war to 16, CBS News reported
on April 1, citing unnamed officials.
MQ-9 Reaper is a remotely piloted aircraft used for reconnaissance and surveillance that can also carry out precision strikes. The network said the Reaper is easier to shoot down because it was designed for counterterrorism operations in uncontested airspace, rather than for use against countries that possess modern missile systems.
Depending on the model, a single Reaper can cost more than $30 million, CBS said.
Earlier on April 1, Tehran denied claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump that suggested Iran requested a ceasefire.
On March 30, Iranian state media published a
statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying it had intercepted
and destroyed an MQ-9 over Isfahan.
