The State Department and the Pentagon conveyed the warnings to officials in Ukraine and Europe over the weekend, the report said. U.S. military officials also contacted Ukrainian commanders directly.
Another source familiar with the matter said the United States had threatened to reduce intelligence sharing.
CNN also quoted a European official who described intelligence sharing and weapons purchases as “vital” to Ukraine and called U.S. threats to halt them “a sad day” for Kyiv and its allies.
If implemented, the suspension would have an immediate impact on Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
U.S.-provided intelligence helps Ukraine defend itself against Russian ballistic missiles, CNN reported. The information allows Ukrainian forces to identify the locations of missile launchers, as well as the direction and timing of attacks.
Suspending weapons purchases through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), a mechanism for procuring U.S. weapons to meet Ukraine’s priority needs, would have the greatest impact on supplies of Patriot interceptor missiles, which Ukraine already faces an acute shortage of.
Another European official told reporters that no changes had been recorded in NATO’s PURL program over the weekend.
On Oct. 10, Axios, citing a Ukrainian official, reported that U.S. presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had warned during talks between Ukrainian and American delegations in Miami that Donald Trump would cut off Kyiv’s access to U.S. intelligence unless Ukraine stopped attacking Russian oil refineries.
The warning came amid an agreement between Trump and Vladimir Putin to supply Russian diesel fuel to U.S. and global markets, a move that U.S. officials claimed would help lower prices.
However, a U.S. representative denied reports that threats had been made against Ukraine.
Separately, the Financial Times, citing European officials, reported that the Trump administration was threatening to suspend the weapons procurement mechanism that supplies Ukraine with arms.
