Russian forces have made new gains near Vuhledar, Donetsk Oblast, and are now threatening the town from three sides, according to a report published by the British Defense Intelligence on X on Sept. 25.

Russian troops are already assaulting the outskirts of the settlement, which Russia has repeatedly attacked since 2022.

According to intelligence sources, it is highly likely that the invading forces will continue to exert pressure on the town over the next week.

In the central part of Donetsk Oblast, Russian forces are conducting military operations in the eastern part of Toretsk and south of Pokrovsk. They are making slow progress in the area of Chasiv Yar.

Intelligence analysts believe that the Russian troops may attack several targets simultaneously to stretch Ukrainian forces. However, this approach prevents Russia from concentrating its forces in one area of the front to achieve a more significant effect.

Analysts from the DeepState monitoring project reported on Sept. 24 that the situation around Vuhledar is critical and continues to deteriorate—the Russian army is attempting to encircle the town and simultaneously destroy the settlement with artillery and guided aerial bombs (KABs).

Forbes analyst David Axe wrote that the 72nd Black Zaporozhians Separate Mechanized Brigade might have begun a gradual withdrawal from Vuhledar, Donetsk Oblast, to more defensible positions.
