Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting — the Ramstein-format coalition — began in Brussels, with the United Kingdom and Germany Defense ministers co-chairing the session, Interfax-Ukraine reported on April 11.

UK Defense Secretary John Healey opened the session.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, speaking to journalists ahead of the meeting, said that about 40 countries will be represented. The United States, he added, will be joining via a delegation, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth participating remotely.

Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov noted that a key item on the agenda for this Ramstein meeting will be strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, particularly through Patriot missile systems provision.

The previous Ramstein-format meeting took place on Feb. 12 and was also chaired by the UK — marking a departure from the US’s traditional leading role.

According to Defense News sources, US representation at this meeting may be limited to lower-ranking diplomats.
