Ukraine’s air defenses showed higher effectiveness in March than in previous months, intercepting or suppressing 89.9% of Russian aerial targets, the Defense Ministry said on Telegram on Apr. 1.

As the Defense Ministry noted, 641 Russian air attack assets failed to reach their targets in March. These included missiles and attack drones that Russian forces regularly use to strike Ukrainian territory.

The ministry emphasized that air defense effectiveness continues to improve. It stood at 80.2% in December, 82.5% in January and 85.6% in February, reaching 89.9% in March.

Over the past four months, the effectiveness of intercepting air targets has increased by 9.7%.

The ministry stressed that these results reflect the introduction of new technologies and the development of already proven air defense systems.

“We are approaching the goal set in Ukraine’s war plan — to intercept at least 95% of missiles and drones,” the ministry said.

Overnight on April 1, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 339 strike drones, including Shahed, Gerbera and Italmas types, with about 200 of them being Shaheds. Air defenses destroyed or suppressed 298 enemy drones. At the same time, 20 strike drones hit targets at 11 locations, and debris from downed drones fell at five locations.

Overnight on April 1, Russia carried out a massive drone attack on Ukraine, including the country’s west. In Khmelnytskyi, the attack sparked a fire at an industrial facility.
