Ukraine steps up fight against Russian grain theft with new tracking technology

The agreement, aiming to combat the illegal export of Ukrainian grain from occupied territories, was reached at the Berlin Conference of Agriculture Ministers.

"This is the first ministerial-level step in implementing the strategic agreement between Ukraine and the UK, which will shape our cooperation for the next 100 years," Koval commented.

"The pilot phase of this initiative will take place in Lithuania, with the port of Klaipeda serving as a key hub for verifying the origin of Ukrainian agricultural products."

The GVS system will establish transparent oversight of grain exports, enabling authorities to identify stolen grain and halt its illegal transportation. The UK will provide cutting-edge technology for tracing the origin of crops, ensuring protection for Ukrainian farmers and market transparency.

"This cooperation is a prime example of how Ukraine, the UK, and Lithuania are setting new standards for security and fairness in the agricultural sector — standards that will impact global food security in the future," Koval stressed, thanking international partners for their trust and support.

Earlier reports indicated that as of September 2024, Russia had stolen Ukrainian grain worth more than 30 billion UAH ($810 million USD).
