SBU classifies deadly car explosion in Odesa as terrorist attack

Ukraine’s Security Service classified a car explosion in Odesa’s Kyivskyi district that killed a 21-year-old man as a terrorist act, the agency’s regional office said on Feb. 6.

According to investigators, the explosion occurred at about 5 a.m. near a residential building on Akademika Korolyova Street in Odesa. The driver of the vehicle was killed.

Law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case under Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code (terrorist act) and are conducting comprehensive measures to establish all circumstances of the incident. Those found guilty face life imprisonment.

Earlier on the morning of Feb. 6, police reported that a Toyota vehicle exploded in Odesa, killing a man.
