According to a Commission spokesperson, the deadlines for the measures fell in September. The spokesperson said Ukraine had submitted a report on the implementation of two measures under the Ukraine Plan that were at risk of losing their associated funding. The European Commission will assess their implementation when reviewing Ukraine’s next funding requests.
As a result, Ukraine avoided the risk of losing at least EUR380 million ($410 million) in funding.
According to Suspilne sources, one of the completed measures concerns a law on judges’ integrity declarations. The measure had already received a positive assessment as part of Ukraine’s eighth funding request.
The second measure involves increasing the number of judges and employees at the High Anti-Corruption Court. The European Commission will assess its implementation while reviewing Ukraine’s ninth request for funding.
On Sept. 15, Suspilne reported that European Commissioners Valdis Dombrovskis and Marta Kos had sent Ukrainian MPs a letter listing the legislation Ukraine must adopt to receive already-approved EU funding. The document was sent in response to Ukraine’s request for an additional $27 billion for defense.
On Sept. 14, Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi said
Ukraine’s public finances were nearing a critical point and that delays in
adopting the necessary bills could jeopardize $29.5 billion in international
aid.
