Ukraine's Defense Forces said they destroyed a Russian Buk-M3 air defense system and two command posts during a two-stage offensive operation coordinated by multiple military branches, according to the National Guard's Lasar's Group on July 4.

According to the military, the operation was conducted within the area of responsibility of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine and required coordination among multiple branches of the armed forces. Planning and coordination were carried out by personnel from the Joint Forces Group in cooperation with intelligence analysts from Lasar's Group.

According to the press service, the primary objective was to destroy Russian command posts. However, to safely conduct the airstrikes, Ukrainian forces first had to clear the airspace. The main obstacle was a Russian Buk-M3 surface-to-air missile system concealed in a tree line and used to provide air defense for Russian command headquarters.

Neutralizing the Russian air defense system was the first phase of the operation and was assigned to Lasar's Group operators. Ukrainian crews struck the identified target with a series of Middle Strike attack drones.

According to Lasar's Group, the strikes disabled the Russian air defense system, reducing it to burned-out wreckage and creating a window of opportunity for the next phase of the operation.

After the air defense threat was eliminated, the second phase began with the involvement of Ukrainian combat aircraft. The Air Force Command dispatched aircraft through the newly opened corridor, which struck the Russian occupation forces' primary and backup command posts.

The strikes on the Russian headquarters were further supported by troops from the 151st Separate Mechanized Brigade and the Khartiia Corps, which supplemented the air operation with FPV drone strikes.
