Ukraine detains suspect accused of planning bomb attacks in Kharkiv

According to investigators, the suspect was tasked by Russian intelligence services with assembling improvised explosive devices and placing them in crowded areas near government buildings. The devices were allegedly intended to be detonated remotely during peak hours using mobile phone calls.

The SBU said the suspect was detained in a rented apartment while preparing the explosive devices.

Authorities identified him as an 18-year-old drug-dependent individual who was allegedly recruited through a Telegram channel with promises of “easy money.”

During searches, law enforcement officers seized chemical substances, electronic components used to assemble explosive devices, and a mobile phone containing evidence of communication with Russian handlers.

Investigators have charged the suspect under multiple articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, including aiding in the preparation of a terrorist act committed by a group. He is currently in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property if convicted.
