“We categorically deny the claims made by Russian media regarding Ukrainian strikes on or near the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant," said ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.
He reiterated that the Armed Forces of Ukraine strictly adhere to international humanitarian law and do not attack civilians or civilian infrastructure, in contrast to the conduct of Russian troops.
Earlier, the Telegram channel Astra, citing Russian propagandists, reported an explosion in Kurchatov, Kursk Oblast, Russia, claiming it was caused by an aerial bomb.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that Russians are spreading false information about a strike on the Kursk NPP with HIMARS rocket artillery.
“Of course, no one attacked the nuclear power plant; there is no logic in that,” he said.
“Russians show a fire in Kurchatov and a ground explosion in the video. What does this have to do with shelling a nuclear plant? It is quite far away. There is nothing associated with an attack on the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.”
