Ukraine shows interest in striker Robbie Ure as player considers citizenship

The 22-year-old Scottish player said he had contacted the Ukrainian Association of Football several months ago. Ure, who has Ukrainian roots, has discussed the possibility of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship.

At the same time, he said he does not expect a call-up to Serhii Rebrov’s squad in the near future, noting that Ukraine already has several high-level strikers playing in top European leagues.

Ure is a product of Rangers’ academy and later moved to Anderlecht before joining Sirius for €750,000 (about $820,000). In 2025, he made 30 appearances for the Swedish club, recording 15 goal contributions, including 11 goals and four assists. He has started 2026 in strong form, scoring four goals in his first four league matches in Sweden.

Ure has previously been called up to Scotland’s U-21 national team but has yet to make his debut.

Earlier this year, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Ukrainian club Polissya Zhytomyr had made a €1.5 million ($1.6 million) offer for Ure, which Sirius rejected. The club is expected to return with a bid of €2.5 million ($2.7 million) as it competes with Austria’s Salzburg for the striker.

Jacobs also reported that Ure is in the process of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship.

Earlier, reports said a player recently called up by Rebrov had been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.
