Ukraine identifies 45 foreign components in Russia’s Geran-3 drones

The Geran-3 is modeled on Iran’s Shahed-238 jet-powered UAV. The Russian version uses a Chinese Telefly JT80 turbojet engine, allowing speeds between 300 and 370 kilometers per hour and an operational range of up to 1,000 kilometers.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the drone reaches its maximum speed mainly when operating in areas covered by Ukrainian air defenses and electronic warfare systems, as well as when evading interceptor drones or during the terminal phase of an attack.

Its electronic modules largely mirror those in the gasoline-powered Geran-2 (series I), including a SADRA inertial navigation system, an air data computer, and a power distribution unit.

To shield satellite navigation from Ukrainian electronic warfare, Russia equips the Geran-3 with a jam-resistant system using a 12-element adaptive antenna array, the KomETA-M12. The drone also carries a camera and video transmission system borrowed from the Geran-2 (series ʺЪʺ).

In total, HUR identified 45 foreign components: about half sourced from the United States, eight from China, seven from Switzerland, three from Germany, two from the United Kingdom, and one from Japan.
