On April 26, Russian General Staff Chief Valery Gerasimov claimed that Russian forces had “liberated” the last settlement in Kursk Oblast — the village of Gornal.
However, Ukraine’s General Staff refuted this, saying that fighting inside Kursk Oblast was ongoing. The DeepState project also reported that Ukrainian operations in the area continued.
According to a May 7 report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian Defense Forces once again crossed the Russia–Ukraine border and advanced into the village of Tyotkino in Kursk Oblast.
On May 18, the Ukrainian General Staff reiterated that Ukrainian forces maintained their presence in the region.
Then on May 21, the General Staff again reported that Russian claims about the end of hostilities in Kursk Oblast did not reflect the actual battlefield situation.
