Ukraine’s FPV drone usage rises 25% as military aims to stay ahead in drone warfare

In August, Ukraine’s Defense Forces ramped up their use of FPV drones in combat zones by 25% compared to June, Vadym Sukharevsky, Commander of the Drone Systems Forces reported on Friday, Sep. 6.

The General Staff discussed the results of a video conference held to review the performance of Ukraine's drone strike units.

Key objectives were set for enhancing capabilities in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, emphasized that Ukrainian forces must always stay "one step ahead of the enemy" when it comes to deploying drones.

On Feb. 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued a decree to establish a separate branch of the Armed Forces dedicated to drone systems—officially named the Drone Systems Forces.

On June 10, Ukraine's Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, appointed Colonel Vadym Sukharevsky as Commander of the Drone Systems Forces.
