Certified drone operators will find it easier to qualify for relevant military specialties, Shmyhal said. He also noted that by the end of 2024, Ukraine will produce 1.5 million drones.
In the broader context, next year’s state budget allocates 2.2 trillion hryvnias ($60 billion) for defense and security, making up 26% of Ukraine's GDP.
Shmyhal also mentioned that in 2023, Ukraine tripled its ammunition production, with every second shell used in combat zones being Ukrainian-made.
On Sep. 6, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine plans to establish underground facilities for weapons and ammunition production to reduce dependence on potential supply delays from international partners.
On Sep. 15, presidential advisor on strategic issues Oleksandr Kamyshin reported that Ukraine had started domestic production of 155mm artillery shells.
