Ukraine strikes deep into Russia: oil depot, aircraft plant, and command post hit

Ukraine’s Defense Forces carried out a series of precision strikes on critical Russian military infrastructure, including an oil depot, an aviation plant, and a command post, Ukraine’s General Staff reported on Jan. 21.
Key targets struck:
- Liskynska oil depot (Voronezh Oblast, Russia) – hit for the second time in a week, as Ukraine’s Defense Forces first targeted the facility on Jan. 17, causing significant damage. The facility, owned by Rosneft, was engulfed in flames, destroying fuel supplies meant for Russia’s occupying forces.
- Smolensk Aviation Plant (Smolensk Oblast, Russia) – a key manufacturer and modernizer of Russian combat aircraft, including Su-25 attack planes. Explosions were reported at the site.
- Command post of Russia’s 29th Combined Arms Army (occupied Volnovakha, Donetsk Oblast) – struck by Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces and drone units. Reports indicate blasts and heavy smoke in the area.

Russian response and disruptions, caused by the attack
Russian state media reported drone attacks and air defense activity across Rostov, Voronezh, Saratov, Belgorod, and Bryansk oblasts. Kazan and Ulyanovsk airports temporarily suspended operations due to drone threats.
