Ukraine may struggle to deploy Tomahawk missiles without strategic bombers – HUR

“They are not easy to use," he admitted.

"Their primary platforms are warships or strategic bombers. We have no strategic bombers.”

Skybytskyi also emphasized the importance for Ukraine to carry out “kinetic” strikes on military targets deep inside Russian territory. Negotiations are now underway with Washington regarding lifting restrictions on the use of ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km.

According to Skybytskyi, since Russia has moved its strategic military bases more than 500 km away from Ukraine’s border, the Ukrainian Defense Forces can only strike them using drones with 5 kg warheads.

ATACMS missiles, on the other hand, carry a 500-kg warhead and can cause massive destruction.

“For us, it’s very important to get permission from the U.S. to use long-range missiles" he said.

"We aim to destroy and disable targets in accordance with NATO procedures,” he said.

On July 15, The Washington Post reported that U.S. President Donald Trump was considering providing Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles capable of striking Moscow or St. Petersburg.

On July 14, Trump announced that the United States and NATO had reached an agreement on arms supplies to Ukraine. According to him, the U.S. will produce “the best weapons in the world” and sell them to NATO, while the Alliance would coordinate their delivery to Ukraine.

Trump also claimed Ukraine will receive billions of dollars’ worth of weapons through this deal. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte added that the assistance will include “a vast amount of military equipment,” including air defense systems and missiles. In some cases, partners may send weapons already in their arsenals to Ukraine while restocking from U.S. manufacturers.

The U.S. president also noted that some countries with Patriot air defense systems might soon transfer them to Ukraine.
