Ukraine is making significant strides on its path to joining the European Union, with negotiations on specific clusters set to begin in 2025. High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, shared these details in an interview with Suspilne on Nov. 11.

“Ukraine becoming a candidate for EU membership is a very important decision for your future,” Borrell stated. “Membership in the EU is the greatest security commitment we can offer. We are not a military alliance, but being part of the European Union family means having strong capacities because each member is dedicated to the security, defense, and integrity of the rest as one united family.”

Borrell highlighted that the latest report from the European Commission is "very positive."

“I am confident that by next year, as soon as possible, negotiations on specific clusters will begin,” he added. “This showcases the unprecedented speed at which Ukraine is progressing. No country has ever moved this fast in my memory.”

On Oct. 29, the Financial Times reported, citing sources, that the European Commission had issued a progress report on candidate countries, including Ukraine and Moldova, but without an official recommendation for advancing their EU integration process.
