Ukraine will have greater use of the satellite capabilities of Finnish companies ICEYE and Nokia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced after meeting with Finnish PM Petteri Orpo on Oct. 22.

During Orpo’s Kyiv visit, the two sides signed seven documents totaling EUR300 million ($325 million). The agreements include a new support package for Ukraine and other measures that, according to Zelenskyy, expand opportunities for cooperation.

Finland will also help Ukraine with logistics and energy. Zelenskyy thanked Finland for providing additional rail locomotives, energy equipment and funding to protect the country’s energy system.

“These are key targets for Russia right now, and having more locomotives, more energy equipment and more funding to protect the energy system will really help us,” Zelenskyy said.

ICEYE manufactures radar satellites that can image Earth through clouds and at night. Ukraine has used the company’s data since 2022 for intelligence purposes.

Last week, Russian military satellite Kosmos-2612 moved very close to the ICEYE-X36 satellite before beginning to move away on Oct. 18.
