Ukrainian drones may have hit one of Russia’s most advanced S-500 radar stations

It is noted that the Yenisei radar underwent testing only in 2020–2021 and was adopted into service after the start of the full-scale invasion. This radar is part of the S-500 air defense system and, according to the manufacturer, is capable of detecting ballistic targets, hypersonic missiles, stealth objects — including advanced American bombers — as well as low-orbit satellites and highly maneuverable aerodynamic targets.

There is no publicly available information about the price or number of 98L6 Yenisei radars produced, but it can be confidently stated that this type of radar station is extremely rare. It is likely that Russia possesses only a few units.

Earlier, Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence released footage showing strikes on Russian military targets in occupied Crimea, including a Project 02510 BK-16 landing craft, radar stations, and an air defense base.

The following targets were hit:

• Project 02510 BK-16 landing craft;

• Nebo-SVU radar;

• Podlyot K-1 radar;

• 96L6E radar.
