The publication highlighted some details about Ukraine’s new long-range cruise missiles Flamingo.
The journalists reminded that Fire Point company initially produced 30 missiles per month; now the figure stands at 50 missiles. In the future, production could reach 200 units per month.
“The Ukrainian army now probably has at least dozens, and possibly more than a hundred Flamingos,” Welt noted.
There are separate reports about the use of the new missiles in combat, likely in trials. Thus, three cruise missiles were used in an attack on an FSB base in the northern part of the occupied Crimea, and according to an analysis by missile expert Fabian Hoffmann from the University of Oslo, two of them reached the target and another fell approximately 100 meters from it.
“The strikes left craters up to 15 meters in diameter,” the piece emphasized.
Thus, insufficient accuracy is compensated by enormous explosive power.
On Aug. 30 the Russian Telegram channel Astra, citing sources, reported that in the morning Ukrainian Neptune missiles attacked the border area near the village of Voloshine at a Russian border post. The strikes damaged six hovercraft and one Russian service member was killed.
However, the outlet Militarnyi reported that the attack near the temporarily occupied Armyansk was carried out by the new Ukrainian Flamingo missile, not Neptune.
Video of that salvo was published by famous Telegram channel Nikolaevsky (the Russian name of the city of Mykolaiv - ed.) Vanek on Aug. 31. The caption under the clip wrote that the launch was of Flamingo missiles.
Ukrainian Flamingo missiles
On Aug. 17, Ukrainian photojournalist Efrem Lukatsky, who cooperates with the Associated Press, shared a photograph of the Ukrainian Flamingo missile, with a range of more than 3,000 km. The journalist stressed that these missiles have entered serial production.
Defence Express noted that the warhead weight of the Flamingo is twice as powerful as the U.S.-made Tomahawk. Flamingo’s speed reaches up to 950 km/h.
On Aug. 18, the newspaper Dzerkalo Tyzhnia reported that the Flamingo missile has already gone into serial production and has been successfully used in combat launches.
On Aug. 20, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that mass production of the missile was to begin in Ukraine before the start of 2026. The president called Flamingo “the most successful” of all Ukrainian weapons now in service.
On Aug. 21, AP reported that Ukraine produces one Flamingo missile a day at a secret factory. Plans call for scaling up capacity to produce up to seven per day.
