The Ukrainian Defense Forces have liberated Andriivka in Sumy Oblast for the second time, the DeepState project announced on June 22.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces have liberated Andriivka in Sumy Oblast and stabilized their left flank, analysts report.

The 225th Separate Assault Regiment, after prolonged fighting and clearing the village of Russian troops, managed to take control of the area, according to DeepState.

“These actions succeeded in, first, diverting forces from other villages, as the enemy had dug in at Andriivka, and second, stopping further advancement toward the important settlements of Khotyn and Pysarivka,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, the enemy has advanced near Pryvilne and Shevchenko in Donetsk Oblast.

Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that Ukrainian forces had advanced 200-700 meters in the Yunakivka area of Sumy Oblast over the past week.

Syrskyi stressed that Russian troops are attempting to create a “buffer zone” in the border areas of Sumy Oblast. The enemy is actively storming positions near Yunakivka and trying to improve its positions near Andriivka and Oleksiivka.

The defense forces have regained control of Andriivka and have generally stabilized the situation along the Kindrativka-Yunakivka line, Syrskyi added.

He also reported that Ukrainian troops in the Sumy direction are under the command of Brigadier General Oleh Apostol, who recently took over as commander of the Airborne Assault Forces. According to Syrskyi, Apostol is “leading quite successfully.”

On June 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the liberation of Andriivka.

On June 20, Vladimir Putin threatened that Russian forces could capture the Ukrainian city of Sumy, but emphasized that “he has not set such a task at the moment.”

On June 21, Zelenskyy stated that the Sumy direction remains one of the hottest on the front, with 23% of all Russian strikes recorded in Oblast, including those using North Korean missiles.

On June 4, DeepState reported that Russian troops continue to advance in Sumy Oblast, aided by a large infantry presence. The situation is critical due to the potential for Russian shelling of Sumy with fiber-optic FPV drones.
