Ukrainian ground robots to begin full assault missions by year’s end

“We’re talking about within the year. Personally, my goal is to complete a series of successful assault operations with robotic systems by the end of this year,” said Makar, commander of the robotic systems platoon within the drone company of the brigade’s 2nd Assault Battalion. “I hope you’ll soon see another successful mission on the 3rd Assault Brigade’s media channels.”

He explained that for robotic systems equipped with grenade launchers, machine guns, and kamikaze ground drones to effectively conduct assaults, several components must align: well-trained personnel with tactical awareness, proper mission planning, and command-level support.

“Only by combining all these elements will we be able to carry out assault missions effectively,” Makar said.

According to him, the 3rd Assault Brigade already uses robotic systems to support and cover assault groups as they clear enemy positions.

“We’re moving toward fully robotic assaults, where infantry would only come in afterward to secure or occupy the territory,” he added. “The goal is to take as much of the burden off the infantry as possible.”

On July 9, the 3rd Assault Brigade reported a successful robot-led attack against Russian positions in Kharkiv Oblast — carried out without infantry involvement.

FPV drones and kamikaze ground robots targeted enemy fortifications. When one robot destroyed a dugout and another approached for a follow-up strike, the remaining Russian soldiers reportedly surrendered to avoid being blown up.

According to Ukrainian troops, the surviving Russians were taken prisoner and escorted back to Ukrainian-controlled lines.
