Army aviation deputy commander reveals how many Russian Shahed drones are shot down by Ukrainian helicopters

“We are handling our task quite effectively at the moment. We are not standing still — we are constantly modernizing, finding new tactical methods and techniques to repel this aggression. The enemy keeps trying to adapt its Shaheds to avoid being shot down — changing speed, flight altitude, and performing various maneuvers in the air. However, this does not hinder us. We are continuously improving our performance in this regard,” Bilobryukhov said on Radio NV.

He also reported that he has personally been involved in the downing of 264 aerial targets and noted that many pilots in his brigade have achieved even better results.

“The figure of more than 4,000 downed drones was already mentioned by [journalist] Dmytro Komarov [in his report on Ukrainian air defense]. Seventy-five percent of them are credited to just one army aviation brigade, while the rest of the pilots joined a bit later as the aerial threat increased,” the deputy commander of the army aviation brigade said.

On Oct. 13, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said after a Staff meeting that additional helicopter groups would be formed to defend against Russian attack drones.

In February, pilots of the 11th Separate Army Aviation Brigade in Kherson showed how they shoot down Russian Shaheds from Mi-24 helicopters.
