Ukrainian Intelligence takes out Russian Su-30SM fighter jet over Black Sea - video

The fighter jet belonged to the 43rd Separate Naval Aviation Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces, based at an airfield in the city of Saky, Crimea.

The aircraft was downed by a portable air defense system (MANPADS), resulting in the plane crashing into the sea. The Russian forces began searching for the jet after it losing radar contact around 5 a.m. EET on Sept. 11. By midday, they located debris about 70 kilometers northwest of Cape Tarkhankut (Crimea).

The Su-30SM is valued at approximately $50 million, HUR said.

Earlier on Sept. 12, Ukraine's General Staff confirmed the downing of a Russian aircraft, though it did not specify the type. 

Russia has lost 369 planes in Ukraine since the war outbreak.

The Su-30SM is a modernized version of the Su-30, used by Russian forces to launch anti-radar missiles, including the Kh-31P and Kh-58.
