In his letter to Parliament, Iohannis emphasized the need to enhance and diversify the training of Ukrainian forces. This proposal aligns with the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format, which coordinates efforts to bolster Ukraine's maritime capabilities.
Romania is set to support the training of Ukrainian marines within its available resources, with the international community contributing to the center's operations. The UK has committed to fully funding the center's initial phase.
The center is expected to operate for two years should it be approved by the country's allies.
Romania reserves the right to withdraw from the commitment at any time.
On Sept. 18, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha visited Romania and met with his counterpart, Luminita Odobescu, to discuss energy matters, Black Sea security, and military assistance.
