Russian spy caught planning assassination of Ukrainian officer in Kyiv

The agent initially underwent two "test assignments," which involved setting fire to the vehicles of Ukrainian defenders.

After completing these tasks, he was instructed to set up video surveillance on a Ukrainian Armed Forces officer. Russian intelligence planned to carry out an attack on the officer based on this surveillance.

However, the SBU and National Police uncovered the plot in time and arrested the Russian agent at his residence. At the time of his arrest, he was preparing to conduct further reconnaissance near the target but had not yet installed the camera.

The suspect, a 20-year-old Kyiv resident, was found in possession of flammable materials used to set the cars on fire, as well as a mobile phone containing evidence of his crimes.

SBU investigators have charged the individual under Part 1, Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period.

The suspect is currently in custody and faces up to eight years in prison.
