Russian forces are using a new cynical tactic in their war against Ukraine — mining roads with FPV drones, Black Swan assault battalion of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment reported on June 22.

The military shared a video showing the moment their vehicle struck a drone abandoned by the enemy.

According to the soldiers, fortunately, the detonation happened prematurely, and none of their comrades were harmed. The vehicle involved — a buggy — only needs minor repairs.

“This is another challenge that we need to find an effective countermeasure for," the military cocluded.

"A drone left on the road — especially at night or among vegetation — is almost impossible to spot.”

On June 22, Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that Ukraine now outpaces Russia in the number of FPV drones but lags behind in fiber-optic-controlled drones.

According to him, Russia has achieved some success in producing drones with fiber-optic control, which are harder to disable.

“Unfortunately, they have an advantage here — both in quantity and range," Syrskyi said.

"We’ve already seen examples of fiber-optic drones flying up to 40 kilometers. We’re still catching up in this area.”
